Der Secret Policeman's Ball war eine Veranstaltung zu Gunsten von Amnesty International. Er fand erstmals 1976 statt. Beim "Pleasure at her Majesty's" traten Musiker und Komiker aus ganz England auf. Wie bei den späteren von Bob Geldof veranstalteten Live Aid und Live8 Konzerten traten auch beim Secret Policeman's Ball alle Künstler ohne Gage auf. Der Erlös der Shows ging vollständig an Amnesty International. Insgesamt gab es sechs Shows.
Hintergrund
Der Sinn der Veranstaltung sollte die Unterstützung von Kriegsgefangenen und politischen Häftlingen sein. Für die Show geschrieben wurde der Song "I shall be released", der am Ende des Konzerts von Sting und allen anderen Musikern vorgetragen wurde.
Musiker
Es traten unter anderem Eric Clapton und Phil Collins auf. Daneben auch Sting (kurz nach der Trennung von Police), Donovan, Jeff Beck und Sir Bob Geldof.
Komiker
Monty Python traten ebenfalls auf, sowie der Australische Komiker Barry Humphries als Dame Edna.
