Baron Trevethin, of Blaengawney in der Grafschaft Monmouthshire, ist ein erblicher britischer Adelstitel in der Peerage of the United Kingdom, benannt nach der Ortschaft Trevethin, einem Vorort von Pontypool, Wales.

Verleihung

Der Titel wurde im Jahre 1921 für den angesehenen Richter Sir Alfred Lawrence geschaffen. Dieser war 1921/22 Lord Chief Justice of England.

Weiterer Titel

Der jüngere Sohn des ersten Barons, Geoffrey Lawrence, war ebenfalls ein bekannter Jurist. Er wurde 1945 Vorsitzender Richter im Nürnberger Prozess gegen die Hauptkriegsverbrecher. Nach dem Abschluss des Verfahrens wurde er seinerseits 1947 als Baron Oaksey, of Oaksey in der Grafschaft Wiltshire, in den erblichen Adelsstand erhoben. Der Titel ist nach der Ortschaft Oaksey benannt.

Nachdem sein älterer Bruder 1959 ohne männlichen Abkömmling gestorben war, führte Lawrence beide Titel. Er nutzte jedoch entgegen den allgemeinen Regeln nicht den älteren Titel, sondern nannte sich weiterhin Baron Oaksey. Sein Sohn verfährt entsprechend.
