Die University of California, Santa Barbara ist eine staatliche Universität im US-Bundesstaat Kalifornien, die nördlich von Los Angeles und südlich von San Francisco in Santa Barbara liegt.

Sie ist Teil der University of California und Mitglied der Association of American Universities, einem seit 1999 bestehenden Verbund führender forschungsintensiver nordamerikanischer Universitäten. 2006 waren 20.569 Studenten eingeschrieben.

Geschichte

UCSB wurde 1909 als kleine Schule zur Lehrerausbildung gegründet. 1944 wurde sie in den Verbund der University of California aufgenommen.

Sport

Die Sportteams der UCSB nennen sich die Gauchos. Die Universität ist Mitglied der Big West Conference.
