Le Mans Union Club 72 (oder kurz MUC) ist ein französischer Fußballverein aus der Stadt Le Mans im westfranzösischen Département Sarthe; die "72" steht nicht etwa für das Gründungsjahr, sondern ist die Nummer dieses Départements.

Gegründet wurde er 1889 als Union Sportive du Mans, die Fußballabteilung aber erst 1902. Seinen heutigen Namen erhielt der Klub 1985 nach seiner Fusion mit Stade Olympique du Maine, von dem auch die Vereinsfarben (Rot und Gelb) übernommen wurden. Die Ligamannschaft spielt im Stade Léon-Bollée, das Platz für 16.670 Zuschauer bietet.

Vereinspräsident ist derzeit Henri Legarda; die Ligamannschaft wird von Daniel Jeandupeux trainiert, der Anfang 2009 Yves Bertucci ablöste. (Stand: Februar 2009)

Ligazugehörigkeit

Erst mitten im 2. Weltkrieg (1942) schaffte es Le Mans, sich für den professionellen Ligabetrieb (in der besetzten Zone Frankreichs) zu qualifizieren, verblieb dort allerdings nur bis 1945. Erst 2003/04 und ab 2005 ist MUC wieder in der höchsten Spielklasse (Division 1, seit 2002 Ligue 1 genannt) vertreten.
