Die USS Grayling (SS-18) war ein U-Boot der D-Klasse in Diensten der United States Navy.

Geschichte

Die Grayling lief am 16. Juni 1909 bei der Fore River Shipyard vom Stapel, die das Boot als Subunternehmer für Electric Boat gebaut hatte. Am 23. November des Jahres wurde das Boot in Dienst gestellt und zwei Jahre später in D-2 umbenannt.

Die D-2 war Flaggschiff der Submarine Division 3 im Atlantik und nahm an Schieß- und Tauchübungen teil. 1915 partizipierte sie an der Presidential Review of the Fleet.

Während des Ersten Weltkrieges war die D-2 eine Testplattform in New London, Connecticut. Am 9. September 1919 wurde das Boot schließlich in der Philadelphia Naval Shipyard der Reserveflotte zugeordnet, am 18. Januar 1922 außer Dienst gestellt und im September des Jahres verkauft, um zerlegt zu werden.
