Vasily Bartold

Wilhelm Barthold, auch bekannt unter dem Namen Vasily Vladimirovich Bartold (Василий Владимирович Бартольд) (* 3. Novemberjul./ 15. November 1869greg. in Sankt Petersburg; † 19. August 1930 ebenda) war ein russischer und sowjetischer Orientalist und Historiker. Er gilt als ein der größten Orientalisten seiner Zeit.

Er lehrte an der Petersburger Universität. Von 1918 bist 1921 war er Direktor des Petersburger Museums für Anthropologie und Ethnographie.

Barthold lieferte wichtige Arbeiten zur Geschichte des westlichen Zentralasien, Iran, des Arabischen Kalifats, des Islam und zur Geschichte der Orientalistik.
