Die BATS Exchange, Inc (auch BATS Trading oder BATS Global Markets) ist im Juni 2005 gegründeter Betreiber von Multilateralen Handelssystemen mit Hauptsitz in Kansas City, das seit Januar 2006 die BATS-Handelsplattform betreibt[1].

Hintergründe

Der Name BATS leitet sich von der Bezeichnung Better Alternative Trading System ab. In Europa agiert BATS unter dem Namen BATS Europe und erreichte im März 2009 einen Handelsanteil am DAX von über 3 Prozent. Mit einem Handelsvolumen von rund 729 Millionen Euro BATS Europe verzeichnete am 2. April 2009 seinen bisher stärksten Handelsumsatz.

Seit dem 31. Oktober 2008 wird das Clearing von BATS Trading Europe von dem Central Counterparty (CCP) European Multilateral Clearing Facility (EMCF) abgewickelt.
