Vendobionta

Vendobionten sind Fossilien, die sich nicht heutigen Formen zuordnen lassen. Sie sind nach dem Zeitalter ihres Vorkommens benannt: Vendium (heute Ediacarium). Sie kommen in relativ grobkörnigen Sandsteinen vor. Die häufigsten und größten Vertreter hatten meist einen ähnlichen Bau:

  • hydrostatische Konstruktion, die einer dünnen flüssigkeitsgefüllten Luftmatratze ähnelt
  • bis zu einem Meter Größe, aber nur wenige Millimeter dick
  • vergleichbare Kompartimentierung wie rezente Foraminiferen (Kammerlinge)

Es wird von einigen Paläontologen bezweifelt, dass die Vendobionten mit irgendeinem heutigen Lebewesen verwandt sind.
