Very Special Old Pale

V.S.O.P. ist die Abkürzung für very special old pale und ist eine Altersprädikatsbezeichnung für Weinbrand, Armagnac, Calvados und Cognac (Weinbrand aus der französischen Region Charente) oder Rum. Die Übersetzung für VSOP lautet "ganz besonders alt und hell".

Handelsübliche Bezeichnungen sind V.O. (very old = sehr alt) für Weinbrände mit einer Fasslagerung von mindestens zwei Jahren, V.S.O.P. für solche mit einer Fasslagerung von mindestens vier Jahren und V.V.S.O.P. (very very special old pale = sehr sehr alt und hell) bei einer Fasslagerung von mindestens fünf Jahren.

Daneben existieren noch andere Altersprädikatsbezeichnungen, die jedoch nicht alle amtlich kontrolliert werden:

  • C.X. Cognac extra (besonderer Cognac)
  • O.P. old pale (alt, hell)
  • R.D.A. réserve des anges (Engels-Reserve)
  • S.O.P. superior old pale (vorzüglich alt, hell)
  • V.F.O.P. very fine old pale (sehr fein, alt, hell)
  • V.O.C.B. very old Champagne Brandy (sehr alter Champagner-Brand)
  • V.O.P. very old pale (sehr alt, hell)
  • V.S. oder *** very special (ganz besonders) oder three stars (drei Sterne)
  • V.S.O. very superior old (vorzüglich alt)
  • V.V.E.S.O.P. very very superior old pale (ganz besonders vorzüglich alt, hell)
  • V.V.O. very very old (sehr sehr alt)
  • X.O. extra old (besonders alt)
  • X.S.O. extra superior old (besonders vorzüglich, alt)
