Ein Cosmopolitan

Der Aperitif Cosmopolitan ist ein alkoholhaltiger Shortdrink. Er taucht zum ersten Mal in den 1930er Jahren im Buch Pioneers of Mixing Gin at Elite Bars auf, wurde seitdem aber merklich verändert. In seiner heutigen Form wird er erst seit den 1990er Jahren serviert. Sie wird Dale de Groff zugeschrieben.

Wurde er ursprünglich mit Gin, Cointreau, Zitronensaft und Himbeere gemixt, so besteht die moderne Rezeptur aus mit Zitronen aromatisiertem Wodka (3cl), Cointreau (1cl), Limettensaft (1cl) sowie Cranberrysaft (2cl). Steht kein Cranberrysaft zur Verfügung kann alternativ auch der Saft der Preiselbeere verwendet werden.

In den 1980er Jahren kursierte in den USA schon ein Wodka/Cranberry-Cocktail, der Stealth Martini. Allerdings ist ein wesentlicher Charakterzug des modernen Cosmopolitan die Verwendung des mit Zitrone aromatisierten Wodkas. Der Cosmopolitan steht sinnbildlich für die moderne, designorientierte Bar, die der Barboom der 1990er Jahre hervorbrachte.

Ende der 1990er Jahre erlangte der Cosmopolitan einen Bekanntheitsschub durch die TV-Serie Sex and the City, in der er das Lieblingsgetränk der Hauptfiguren war.[1]

Varianten

  • Vodka Paradise: ein Cocktail (Longdrink), der aus Cranberrysaft und Vodka-Raspberry besteht. Die Zubereitung erfolgt in einem Longdrinkglas auf Eis. Zuerst wird ein Teil Vodka-Raspberry eingefüllt, danach Cranberry-Saft. Zum Schluss wird vorsichtig, je nach Belieben, ein Schuss Limette hinzugefügt.
