Yiftah ist eine biblische Person (Richter 11,3) aus dem 11. Jahrhundert. Er war ein unehelicher Sohn und durch seine Brüder vertrieben worden. Danach lebte er für eine gewisse Zeit im Lande Ṭob, vielleicht auf den Golan-Höhen. Er versammelte „wertlose Männer“ um sich, entwurzelte Männer, wie vor ihm Abimelech und nach ihm Saul und David: „jeder, der Schulden hatte, und jeder, der unzufrieden war, sammelte sich um ihn, insgesamt ca. 400 Männer“.
