AF-LOW

Lugar, alternativ auch Lo(w)g(h)ar oder La(w)g(h)ar (je nach Schreibweise mit oder ohne die in Klammern gesetzten Buchstaben), ist eine der 34 afghanischen Provinzen. Auf einer Fläche von ca. 3.900 km² leben etwa 380.000 Einwohner. Die Provinzhauptstadt ist Pul-i-Alam. Die Provinz wird mehrheitlich von Paschtunen bewohnt.

Namensgebung

Möglicherweise geht die Bezeichnung Ligar auf den Begriff "Loy-Ghar" aus der Paschtunensprache zurück. Hier bedeutet es soviel wie "Großer Berg".
