Die burjatische Sprache gehört zur Gruppe der ostmongolischen Sprachen innerhalb der mongolischen Sprachen.

Sie gehört zu den agglutinierenden Sprachen, welche die Wortformen durch selbständige Silben am Wurzelwort bilden. Sie wird von 430.000 Burjaten in der Autonomen Republik Burjatien im südlichen Sibirien gesprochen.

Gesprochen wird die Sprache außerdem von den Burjaten in zwei benachbarten Regionen von Burjatien, dem Autonomen Kreis der Aginer Burjaten in Transbaikalien und dem Autonomen Kreis der Ust-Ordynsker Burjaten westlich des Baikalsees.
