Backing Track

Ein Backing Track ist eine Audio- oder MIDI-Aufnahme, zu der Musiker spielen oder singen, um Teile zu ihrer Musik hinzuzufügen, die unpraktisch live aufzuführen wären.

Einsatzbereiche

Bands oder Einzelmusiker können Backing Tracks verwenden, um einer Live-Aufführung weitere Instrumental- oder Gesangsspuren hinzuzufügen, um den Klang zu verbessern (wie es z. B. beim Einsatz von gedoppelten Hintergrundgesangsstimmen geschieht), oder um originalgetreuer die Instrumentierung einer Aufnahme zu treffen.

Ein Sänger oder ein Chor, der ohne Band auftritt, kann auch zu bereits vorher aufgezeichneter Musik spielen. Ein Musikstück ohne Lead-Gesang nennt man auch Karaoke oder Playback. Musik-Backing Tracks sind auch für das Üben eines Instrumentes und das Jammen erhältlich.

In der elektronischen Musik werden Songparts, die für einen lebenden Musiker zu schwer zum Spielen sind, programmiert. Backing Tracks finden des Weiteren Einsatz bei Auftritten von Gruppen, wo die Musiker lediglich Lippen-Synchronisation betreiben. Bestimmte Situationen können die Nutzung von Backing Tracks geradezu herausfordern: Viele TV-Stationen etwa benötigen es bei Auftritten von Künstlergruppen, dass nur die Gesangsstimmen live sind und der Rest "aus der Konserve" kommt - andere Vorgehensweisen wären zu schwierig in Bezug auf die Abmischung.
