Die Cable & Wireless plc ist eines der größten Telekommunikationsunternehmen der Welt.

Gegründet wurde es um ca. 1860 von John Pender. In der Mitte der 1980er Jahre stellte Cable & Wireless als erstes Unternehmen in England eine Alternative zur British Telecom beim Telefon dar. Später wurde das Angebot um Kabelfernsehen erweitert. Heute ist Cable & Wireless einer der größten Internet Service Provider weltweit und stellt mit Unternehmen wie Level 3, AT&T, Global Crossing und anderen einen beachtlichen Teil des Internet-Backbones.

Cable & Wireless verkaufte 2000 das Tochterunternehmen Hong Kong Telecom an das chinesische Unternehmen PCCW.
