Banjar

Das Banjar ist die kleinste formelle soziale Einheit der balinesischen Gesellschaft. Sie unterhält insbesondere ein Bale Banjar, einen Versammlungsort, in dem die Gemeinschaftstreffen und sonstige Aktivitäten (Sport, Tanz, Gamelan etc.) stattfinden.

Jedes Banjar wird von einem durch die Vollversammlung der Familienoberhäupter gewählten Klian geleitet. Das Banjar ist auf Bali eine sehr alte Einrichtung, die wahrscheinlich auf prähinduistische Zeiten zurückgeht. Die Dörfer in Bali bestehen meist aus mehreren Banjars, weil bei Überschreiten einer Höchstgröße von ca. 500 Bewohnern ein neues ausgegründet wird.
