Cancer-Antigen 15-3

Cancer-Antigen 15-3 (CA 15-3) ist ein Tumormarker, der bei Mamma- oder Ovarialkarzinomen erhöht sein kann.

Der Tumormarker wird im Serum gemessen und nimmt mit steigender Tumormasse und Metastasierung zu. Der Tumormarker CA 15-3 steht für das Protein Mucin1 auch MUC1 genannt. Er ist nicht nur bei fortgeschrittenem Brust- und Eierstockkrebs erhöht sondern auch bei anderen Tumorarten. Aus historischen Gründen wird er da aber nicht gemessen zum Beispiel beim Prostatakrebs, wo er ebenfalls nachweisbar ist.

Der Tumormarker CA-15-3 wird abhängig vom Spiegel des Gelbkörperhormons Progesteron gebildet. Denn es ist ein Protein, dass normalerweise den Embryo vor der Abstoßung als Fremdkörper schützt. Auf gleiche Weise schützt es auch Tumore vor Abstoßung. Durch eine Progesteronvermeidende Diät kann man die Produktion von Tumormarkern wie CA 15-3 und CA 125 unterbinden und so die Tumorabwehr wiederherstellen.

Ein weiterer Name für das gleiche Protein ist KL-6. Unter diesem Namen ist es in Japan als Marker für virale Atemwegsinfektionen bekannt. Auch eine Atemwegsinfektion kann ein Grund für den Anstieg dieses Tumormarkers sein.
