Chaim Menachem Rabin

Chaim Menachem Rabin (* 1915; † 1996), Namensvariante Ḥayyîm Rabîn, war ein in Deutschland geborener israelischer Hebraist und Sprachwissenschaftler. Er war unter anderem mit Franz Baermann Steiner befreundet. Einen Schwerpunkt seiner Forschungen bilden die Textfunde von Qumran. Er war Professor an der Hebräischen Universität Jerusalem für Hebräisch und Semitische Sprachen.

Chaim Rabins Interessen erstreckten sich über alle Aspekte der hebräischen Linguistik, sogar bis zum Arabischen, insbesondere Übersetzungen der alten Sprache der Bibel, der Schriftrollen vom Toten Meer und das detaillierte Studium mittelalterlicher Codices. Er war Hauptherausgeber der Bibelausgabe der Hebräischen Universität.

Rabin war auch von Einfluss auf das in Israel publizierte Wörterbuch der modernen israelischen Sprache. Für die Ausbildung israelischer Übersetzer leistete er Pionierarbeit.

Rabin war ein Mitglied der 1953 gegründeten Akademie der Hebräischen Sprache.
