Living Planet Index

The Living Planet Index (LPI) ist ein Indikator des Zustands der weltweiten biologischen Vielfalt. Er basiert auf Trends der weltweiten Population von Wirbeltier-Arten. Der WWF arbeitet zusammen mit Institute of Zoology (IoZ), der Forschungsabteilung der Zoological Society of London (ZSL), um das 1997 begonnene Projekt weiter zu entwickeln. Die Idee des LPI stammt vom WWF und dem UNEP-WCMC, um Biodiversität als messbare Größe in das United Nations Environment Programme UNEP zu implementieren.

Ziel des Netzwerkes ist es, die Artengruppen um Invertebraten und Pflanzen zu erweitern. Auch soll die Datenlage für einige Regionen verbessert werden.
