Load Dump

Unter Load Dump versteht man das Entstehen von Spannungsspitzen im Kfz-Generator. Sobald der Generator unter einer gewissen Last arbeitet steuert der Regler die Generatorspannung so, dass ausreichend Strom erzeugt wird, um die Verbraucher zu versorgen und die Batterie zu laden. Wird nun die Last weggenommen, beispielsweise durch Ausschalten der Verbraucher oder durch Trennen der Ladeleitung, steuert der Regler die Erregerwicklung des Generators nicht mehr an. Da es aber eine Gewisse Zeit dauert, bis sich das Magnetfeld abgebaut hat, induziert der Generator eine für diesen Moment zu hohe Strommenge, es entsteht eine sogenannte Spannungsspitze. Diesen Vorgang nennt man Load Dump.

Damit durch den Load Dump die Dioden nicht zerstört werden, sind sogenannte Löschdioden im Generator verbaut, die diese Spannungsspitzen abbauen.
