Polar World ist der Name einer Zooanlage in der Gemeinde Orsa in Schweden.

Lage

Sie liegt in einem Bärenpark (schwedisch Björnpark) in Grönklitt, etwa 11 km vom Ort Orsa entfernt.

Beschaffenheit

Die etwa 40 000 m² große Eisbären-Anlage hat das Ziel, eine europäische Eisbären-Zucht zu etablieren. Bei der Planung wurden europäische Eisbären-Forscher hinzugezogen. Die Tiere werden ohne direkten Menschenkontakt so artgerecht wie möglich gehalten, zur Abkühlung im Sommer steht eine Schneekanone bereit, die die Landschaft in eine arktische Region verwandeln kann. Die ersten Bewohner sind Ewa aus Rotterdam[1] und Wilbär aus Stuttgart, der in Schweden Wille genannt wird. Aus einem Gebäude heraus kann man die Bären durch Panorama-Scheiben im Teich beobachten. Ansonsten bietet das Gelände den Tieren viel Auslauf und Rückzugsmöglichkeiten. In dem weitläufigen Park sind viele weitere Tiere in ihren großen Gehegen zu beobachten wie Wölfe, Luchse, Braunbären, Kamtschatka - Bären, Eulen, Leoparden oder sibirische Tiger zu sehen.
