US Open Polo Championship

Die US Open Polo Championship wurden erstmals im Jahr 1904 im Van Cortlandt Park in New York City veranstaltet.

Beim ersten Spiel besiegten die Wanderers die Meadowbrook Freebooters.

Der jüngste Spieler der die US Open Polo Champions gewinnen konnte, war Polostar Nicolas Roldan, damals gerade 15 Jahre alt.

2009 bei den US Open in Florida starben 21 Pferde der Polo-Mannschaft aus Venezuela. Während der Spielaufbereitungsphase traten Schwindel, Atemschwierigkeiten und Orientierungslosigkeit der Pferde auf. Als Todesursache wurde Vergiftung, vermutlich durch das Futter der Tiere, vermutet. Der Wert der verstorbenen Pferde wurde auf 2,1 Millionen Dollar geschätzt.[1]
