Der Wollhalsstorch (Ciconia episcopus) ist mit etwa 80 bis 90 Zentimetern ein großer Schreitvogel, der mit drei Unterarten in der Familie der Störche (Ciconiidae) vertreten ist.

Auf dem Kopf tragen Wollhalsstörche eine schwarze Kappe. Am Hinterkopf über den Hals und den Nacken bis in den vorderen Brustbereich haben sie ein weißes wolliges Gefieder. Das restliche Federkleid ist vorwiegend schwarz mit rötlichen Farbtönen an den Schultern, außer dem weißen Bauchgefieder und den weißen unteren Schwanzfedern. Die Flügeldecken haben eine dunkelgrüne Farbe.

Wollhalsstörche sind häufig in Paaren oder in kleinen Gruppen in der Nähe von Gewässern vorzufinden. Sie ernähren sich von Fischen, Fröschen und Kröten, Schlangen und Eidechsen, wie auch von Wirbellosen Tieren.

Die Unterart Ciconia episcopus microscelis hat ihre Brutgebiete im tropischen Afrika wie Uganda und Kenia. In Indien, Indochina und den Philippinen ist die Unterart Ciconia episcopus episcopus vertreten. Das Vorkommen der dritten Unterart Ciconia episcopus neglecta beschränkt sich unter anderem auf Java und Wallacea.
