Covenanters

Als Covenanters bezeichnet man diejenigen schottischen Gruppierungen, die sich in einem National Covenant verpflichtet haben, für ihre Kirche am Presbyterianismus festzuhalten. Der erste Covenant wurde im Dezember 1557 abgeschlossen, doch wichtiger ist der von 1581, der von John Craig für die Church of Scotland im Kampf gegen eine Re-Katholisierung Schottlands zustande gebracht wurde.
