Cultured Pearls

Cultured Pearls ist eine deutsche Band, die einen bunten Mix aus Soul, Rock, Jazz, und Funk spielt; bei einzelnen Liedern hört man sogar Trip-Hop, Country und andere Stile heraus. Sie wurde 1992 gegründet und erhielt 1995 einen Plattenvertrag bei WEA Records.

Bandgeschichte

Ihre erste Single Tic Toc schaffte es auf Platz 65 der deutschen Charts. Auch ihre späteren Singles Sugar Sugar Honey (# 72), Silverball (# 99) und Kissing the Sheets (# 87) konnten sich in der Hitparade platzieren.

Nach ihrem dritten Album legte die Band eine fast dreijährige Pause ein, Astrid North wurde 2001 Mutter einer Tochter.

2002 erschien mit Life on a Tuesday das vierte Album der Band, das von der Kritik unterschiedlich aufgenommen wurde.

Die momentane Bandpause nach der vierten Platte – und den drei neu produzierten Songs für das 2003 erschienene Best Of – soll kreativ genutzt werden: Die Sängerin, Astrid North, arbeitet momentan an einer Solo-Platte, während sich B.La gemeinsam mit dem bei Live-Auftritten der Pearls mitwirkenden Sven Bünger dem Bandprojekt Soulounge widmet, bei dem auch Astrid North immer wieder mitsingt. Tex Super ist dort ebenfalls ab und zu Gastmusiker.
