Die Afro-Shirazi Party (ASP) ist eine ehemalige Partei auf Sansibar.

Entwicklung

Es handelte sich dabei um eine Vereinigung der persischen Shiraz Party und der afrikanischen Afro Party . Die Partei führte im Jahr 1964 den Putsch gegen den Sultan an und stürzte diesen.

Nach der Vereinigung Sansibars mit Tanganjika zum Staat Tansania vereinte sich die ASP mit der Tanganyika African National Union (TANU), die bereits 1965 zur Einheitspartei auf dem Festland erklärt worden war, zur neuen Partei Chama Cha Mapinduzi. Diese wurde einzige legale Partei Tansanias, die laut Verfassung dem Parlament und der Regierung übergeordnet war. Vorsitzender der Einheitspartei wurde der Staatspräisident Julius Nyerere.
