Edward Vincent Sullivan

Edward Vincent Sullivan (* 28. September 1901 in New York City; † 13. Oktober 1974 ebenda) war ein US-amerikanischer Entertainer und bekannt als Moderator seiner Fernseh-Show „Ed Sullivan Show“.

Die Show erreichte die Spitze an Beliebtheit in den späten 1950er und frühen 1960er Jahren.

Ursprünglich war Sullivan ein Sportreporter und schrieb Artikel über Theaterstücke.

1948 bekam er eine wöchentliche Late Night Show am Sonntagabend, in der immer die größeren Talente wie zum Beispiel Elvis Presley oder die Beatles auftraten.

Viele Stars verdankten vor allem ihren Auftritten in dieser Show einen Bekanntheits-Schub, darunter Diana Ross mit der Band The Supremes, die Jackson Five, aber auch politisch nicht unumstrittenen Musikern wie The Doors, Janis Joplin, Jefferson Airplane oder den Rolling Stones wurde hier eine Plattform gegeben.

Insgesamt wurden von CBS 1087 Ausgaben der Ed Sullivan Show ausgestrahlt, wobei jede Show 60 Minuten dauerte.
