15.644785532.47151977Koordinaten: 15° 38′ 41″ N, 32° 28′ 17″ O Die Ahfad Universität für Frauen (engl. Ahfad University for Women, kurz AUW) ist eine private Universität in Omdurman, Sudan, die ausschließlich weiblichen Studierenden offensteht.
Sie wurde 1966 gegründet mit den Zielen, Bildungsmöglichkeiten für Frauen zu schaffen, die Rolle von Frauen, besonders in der ländlichen Entwicklung, zu stärken und die Gleichberechtigung von Frauen in Sudan zu fördern. Zurzeit hat die Ahfad Universität ca. 5000 eingeschriebene Studentinnen.
Trotz ihrer geringen Größe ist die AUW sehr gut international vernetzt; u.a. gibt es eine jährliche Summerschool in Kooperation mit der Humboldt Universität und der Freien Universität Berlin und ein reguläres Austauschprogramm ebenfalls mit Berliner Universitäten.
Struktur
Die AUW ist in sechs Institute, sog. "schools" gegliedert:
- The School of Family Sciences (Familienwissenschaften)
- The School of Psychology and Preschool Education (Psychologie und Vorschul-Erziehung/Bildung)
- The School of Organizational Management (Organisationsmanagement)
- The School of Rural Extension, Education and Development (ländliche Entwicklung)
- The School of Medicine (Medizin)
- The School of Pharmacy (Pharmazeutik)
Neben undergraduate studies (Bachelorstudiengänge) werden auch zwei Masterstudiengänge angeboten, in Human Nutrition (menschliche Ernährung) und Gender and Development (Geschlecht und Entwicklung).
