Der King-Charles-Spaniel, der je nach Fell und Farbe auch andere Namen haben kann ist eine von der FCI (Nr 128, Gr. 9, Sek. 7) anerkannte britische Hunderasse.

Herkunft und Geschichtliches

Der King-Charles-Spaniel war wahrscheinlich das Ergebnis einer sehr alten Mutation kleiner Spaniels. Im 15. Jahrhundert kam es zu Kreuzungen mit kleinen Cocker-Spaniels und Möpsen mit späterer Zuführung des tibetischen Zwergspaniels. Diese Hunde waren besonders an den englischen Höfen sehr beliebt. 1885 wurde der erste Klub gegründet und die Rasse 1892 vom "Kennel Club" anerkannt. Bis in die Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts nutzte man diese kleinen Spaniels bei der Jagd; danach aber waren sie reine Luxushunde.

Beschreibung

Dieser kleine Spaniel wird etwa 33 cm groß und 8 kg schwer. Das Haar ist lang, seidig und gerade. Leichte Wellen sind zulässig. Anhand der Farbe haben sich zum Teil unterschiedliche Namen eingebürgert:

  • Black and Tan: Intensives, glänzendes Schwarz mit lebhaften, mahagoni-braunen Abzeichen an Schnauze, Gliedmaßen, Brust, an der Innenseite der Ohren und unter der Rute
  • Tricolour, Prince Charles: Auf perlweißem Grund gut verteilte schwarze Flecken sowie leuchtend rot-braune Abzeichen an Wangen, an der Innenseite der Ohren und unter der Rute
  • Blenheim: Auf perlweißem Grund gut verteilte kastanienrote Abzeichen
  • Ruby: Einfarbig, intensives Kastanienrot.

Die Ohren sind tief angesetzt, völlig flach den Wangen angeschmiegt herabhängend; sehr lang und gut befranst
