Ferndale Colliery, auch Blaenllechau, hieß ein Steinkohlebergwerk in Wales. Es wurde 1857 vom Bergwerkspionier David Davis (1797–1867) gegründet.

Ein erstes großes Unglück ereignete sich am 8. November 1867. Zwei Explosionen erschütterten den ganzen Ort. Die Leiche von Davis, der das Bergwerk gerade vor der Explosion betreten hatte, wurde bei den Bergungsarbeiten zuerst gefunden. Die faulige Luft ließ die Lampen der Bergungsmannschaften verlöschen. Es dauerte insgesamt einen Monat, bis 178 tote Männer und Jungen geborgen worden waren.

Bei einer weiteren Explosion am 10. Juni 1869 fanden 53 Menschen den Tod.
