Fibre to office

Fibre to Office bezeichnet eine Vernetzungsart innerhalb eines LANs. Dabei gehen zum Beispiel in einer Sterntopologie alle Leitungen von der zentralen Stelle (dem Sternmittelpunkt) via Glasfaserkabel (LWL) in die einzelnen Büroräume. Innerhalb dieser werden jedoch alle Rechner über einen Switch mit integrierten Medienkonverter über ein reguläres Patchkabel angesteuert.

Der Vorteil an dieser Verkabelungsart liegt in der Ausbaufähigkeit. So kann bei einem Fallen der Preise für Netzwerkkarten mit LWL-Eingang jederzeit die vorhandene Infrastruktur beibehalten werden.
