Five Tops

Leo Leandros (bürgerlicher Name: Leo Papathanassiou, * 23. August 1926 in Astakos/Griechenland) ist ein griechischer Komponist, Sänger, Texter und Musikproduzent. Er ist der Vater von Vicky Leandros.

Leben

Leo Leandros war in den 1950er Jahren ein erfolgreicher Sänger in seinem Heimatland. Dann kam er nach Deutschland und wurde auch hier mit Schlagern bekannt. 1960 hatte er seinen größten Erfolg Mustafa. Außerdem gründete er das Ensemble Five Tops. Weitere Mitglieder waren Günter Kallmann, Bernd Golonski, Sigurd Hilkenbach und Karl-Heinz Welbers. 1963 nahm er mit dem Titel Piccolina bei den Deutschen Schlager-Festspielen in Baden-Baden teil und belegte den siebten Platz.

Ab Mitte der 1960er Jahre widmete er sich der Karriere seiner Tochter Vicky, für die er die Musik für fast alle Erfolgstitel schrieb. In den Jahren 1965 bis 1972 unter dem Pseudonym PANAS, erst ab 1973 mit Vicky`s Album „Ihr Freunde mein“ zeichnete er mit richtigem Namen.
