Folkvang

Der Folkwang (altnord. Folkvangar – „Volkshalle, Volkswiese“), auch als Folkvang oder Volkwang bezeichnet, ist in der nordischen Mythologie einer der Götterpaläste in Asgard und Wohnsitz der Göttin Freya. Hier befindet sich – von einem blühenden Garten umgeben – der Saal Sessrumnir, der neben Walhalla einen der beiden großen Säle bildet, in welche die gefallenen Helden nach ihrem Tod Einzug erhalten.

Die Sitze zu ordnen im Saal.
Der Walstatt Hälfte wählt sie täglich,
Odin hat die andre Hälfte. “

Moderne Verwendung

  • In Essen besteht das Museum Folkwang.
  • Die Folkwang Hochschule ist die Kunsthochschule im Ruhrgebiet für Musik, Theater, Tanz und Gestaltung. Das Hauptgebäude befindet sich im Essener Stadtteil Werden. Weitere Standorte sind in Duisburg, Bochum und Dortmund.
