Das Great Beijing Wheel ist ein im Bau befindliches Riesenrad in Peking, China. Auf der Internetseite des Betreibers ist neben dem Namen „Great Beijing Wheel“[1] auch der Name „Beijing Great Wheel“[2] zu lesen.

Allgemeines

Baubeginn war der 27. Mai 2006. Die ursprünglich für das erste Quartal 2008 vorgesehene Fertigstellung wurde später auf 2010 verschoben. Seit Mai 2010 ruhen die Arbeiten jedoch, da die zuständige Baufirma Insolvenz angemeldet hat. Die Höhe des Riesenrades wird 208 Meter betragen. Laut Angaben der Betreiber wurde eine verbesserte Version des London Eyes angestrebt.

Es wird 2800 Tonnen wiegen und 40 Passagiere in jeweils einer der 48 Kapseln transportieren können.[3]
