Althea Forest (* 1961 in Kingston, Jamaika) und Donna Reid (* 1960 in Kingston, Jamaika) waren ein Reggae-Duo.

Werdegang

Althea (in anderen Quellen Althia) und Donna hatten gerade die Schule in Kingston, Jamaika beendet, als sie von Produzent Joe Gibson und Songschreiber Errol Thompson entdeckt wurden. Thompson schrieb für sie den Song „Uptown Top Ranking“, mit dem sie auf Platz 1 der jamaikanischen Hitparade landeten. Bei der BBC bekam der bekannte britische Radiomoderator John Peel die Single in die Hände. Peel war so begeistert von dem Song, dass er ihn ständig im Tagesprogramm der BBC spielte. Nach 7 Wochen in den Charts stieg er am 4. Februar 1978 für eine Woche auf Platz #1 der britischen Hitparade. „Uptown Top Ranking“ beschreibt die sexuellen Unternehmungen eines Nichtstädters in Kingston. Der Song blieb der einzige Hit der beiden Sängerinnen. In den 1990er Jahren entstand eine Coverversion der Gruppe Portishead und im Jahre 2002 von Abs Breen (Titel "What You Got"). Heute leben und arbeiten Althea und Donna in New York.
