Die ISU-Grand-Prix-Serie oder ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating ist eine Reihe von Wettbewerben, die von der Internationale Eislaufunion organisiert werden. Sie finden in den vier Teildisziplinen Herren, Damen, Paarlaufen und Eistanzen statt. Gleichzeitig findet eine ähnliche Wettbewerbsserie auch für Junioren statt.
Wettbewerbe
Die ISU-Grand-Prix-Serie besteht derzeit aus folgenden sechs Einzelwettbewerben
Traditionell beginnt die Saison mit diesem Grand-Prix-Wettbewerben im Oktober eines Jahres und mit dem ISU-Grand-Prix-Finale im Dezember des jeweiligen Jahres. Teilnahmeberechtigt am Finale sind die sechs besten Einzelläufer/Paare, die durch ein Punktesystem ermittelt werden.
Bis zum Jahre 2003 war auch der in Deutschland stattfindende Bofrost Cup (zuvor Sparkassen Cup/Nations Cup) teil dieser Serie, wurde dann aber durch den Cup of China ersetzt.
Geschichte
Bereits vor dem Entstehen der Grand-Prix-Serie fand ein Großteil unterschiedlichen Einzelwettbewerbe statt. Zu diesem Zeitpunkt wurden sie ausschließlich von der jeweiligen nationalen Eislaufunion ausgerichtet. Im Jahr 1995 entschlossen sich die Eislaufunion der USA, Japans, Frankreichs, Deutschlands und Kanadas ihre Einzelwettbewerbe miteinander zu verknüpfen. In der Saison 1995/96 fand erstmals die ISU Champions Series statt.
In der Saison 1998/99 erwarb die ISU die Namensrechte und fortan lief die Wettbewerbsserie unter dem Namen Grand Prix of Figure Skating. Bereits seit 1996 war auch der Cup of Russia Teil dieser Serie. Aufgrund mangelnden Interesses in Deutschland und einem besseren TV-Angebot aus China, wurde der Bofrost Cup 2003 gestrichen und durch den Cup of China ersetzt.
Seit 1997 findet ebenfalls der ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating statt.
Teilnahme
Teilnahmeberechtigt sind Eiskunstläufer, da sie entweder gesetzt sind oder eingeladen werden. Gesetzt sind Läufer/Paare, die eine gute Platzierung bei der vorangegangenen Weltmeisterschaft erreicht haben und eine hohe Platzierung in der internationalen Rangliste innehaben. Ebenfalls können Läufer durch den ausrichtenden Veranstalter eingeladen werden. Maximal sind drei Läufer/Paare pro Disziplin pro Land erlaubt.
Durch gute Platzierungen können die Läufer sich durch ein Punktesystem für das ISU-Grand-Prix-Finale qualifizieren. Qualifizierten Läufern/Paaren ist es erlaubt an maximal zwei Wettbewerben teilzunehmen.
