I Cover The Waterfront ist eine Komposition von John W. Green mit dem Text von Edward Heyman von 1933.

I Cover The Waterfront war ursprünglich als Song für den gleichnamigen Film von James Cruz (1933, mit Claudette Colbert und Ben Lyon) geplant, war aber zu spät fertig gestellt. Er wurde schließlich über den Rundfunk so beliebt, dass er nachträglich in den Film eingefügt wurde. In dem Song sehnt eine Frau bei Anblick des nächtlichen Hafens und der See ihren Liebhaber herbei (I´ll cover the waterfront, I´m watching the sea, will the One I love be coming back to me), entsprechend dem Thema des Films, in dem ein Enthüllungsjournalist der Tochter eines Schmugglers nachstellt. Die wohl berühmteste Interpretation stammt von Billie Holiday. Weitere Versionen existieren von Count Basie, Benny Carter, Paul Chambers, Curtis Fuller, Benny Goodman, Coleman Hawkins, Jazz At The Philharmonic, Bud Powell, Frank Sinatra, Art Tatum und Lester Young.
