Das Imperial Theater in Hamburg wurde am 19. August 1994 in einem ehemaligen Premierenkino und späteren Pornokino eröffnet.

Das Musiktheater mit 270 Plätzen hat sich wegen seiner Musicals (Grease, Rocky Horror Picture Show und viele mehr), Weihnachtsaufführungen und Kriminalstücke unter den deutschen Theatern einen Namen gemacht. Es ist zum festen Bestandteil der Hamburger Kulturszene geworden.

Inzwischen hat das Imperial Theater den Schwerpunkt klar auf Krimis gelegt. Entsprechend bezeichnet man sich mittlerweile auch als „Hamburgs erstes Krimitheater“.
