Issawi

Charles Issawi (* 1916 in Kairo; † 2000 in den USA) war ein Wirtschaftshistoriker.

Er wurde als Sohn einer syrisch-orthodoxen Familie geboren und studierte am Victoria College in Alexandria und später am Magdalen College in Oxford. Er hatte seine Karriere im ägyptischen Finanzministerium begonnen und wechselte danach an die Universität. Seine erste universitäre Stelle war an der Amerikanischen Universität von Beirut während des Zweiten Weltkrieges. Im Jahre 1951 wechselte er an die Columbia-Universität in New York, wo er Wirtschaftsgeschichte des Nahen Ostens lehrte, bevor er 1975 an die Universität Princeton wechselte.
