James G. March

James Gary March (* 1928 in Cleveland, Ohio) ist ein US-amerikanischer Organisationstheoretiker und Professor Emeritus of Management, Higher Education, Political Science and Sociology der Stanford University, Kalifornien.

Leben

Zuletzt war er Professor Of Management an der Stanford University Graduate School of Business. Er trat 1970 dieser Universität ein, wo er bis 1995 lehrte.

Er gilt als Klassiker der Organisationsforschung und ist einer der herausragenden Vertreter der verhaltenswissenschaftlichen Entscheidungstheorie (behavioral theory of the firm). In seinen Werken befasste er sich hauptsächlich mit der Entscheidungspraxis in Organisationen. Große Aufmerksamkeit erhielt er durch seine Kritik an vorherrschenden Denkprinzipien wie der Theorie der besten Wahl.

Er entwickelte das sog. Mülleimer-Modell der Organisation. Demnach hängen Entscheidungsprozesse von 4 Faktoren ab:

  • 3. Entscheidungsgelegenheiten
  • 4. Teilnehmer
