Das Gebiet Pawlodar (russ. Павлодарская область/Pawlodarskaja oblast; kasach. Павлодар облысы/Pawlodar oblysy) ist eine Verwaltungseinheit im Nordosten der Republik Kasachstan an der Grenze zum russischen Westsibirien. Die Fläche des Gebiets beträgt 124.800 Quadratkilometer (Vergleich: fünf neue Bundesländer zusammen ca. 108.000 Quadratkilometer), die Bevölkerung beträgt jedoch lediglich 748.700 Einwohner (1. Januar 2003).

Geografie

In der Oblast Pawlodar (Kalkaman / Kreis Aksu)

Steppe ist die vorherrschende Landschaftsform. Der wasserreiche Irtysch, aus dem Altai kommend, ist die Lebensader des Bezirks. Er speist auch den Irtysch-Karaganda-Kanal, der Trinkwasser durch die Steppe nach Süden leitet.

Wirtschaft

Das Gebiet Pawlodar verfügt über reiche Bodenschatzvorkommen, die die Grundlage für einen Territorialen Produktionskomplex Pawlodar-Ekibastus mit ausgeprägter Großindustrie bilden.

In den letzten Jahren ist die landwirtschaftlich genutzte Fläche stark zurückgegangen. Bis zum Zerfall der Sowjetunion spielte die Landwirtschaft jedoch eine sehr große Rolle im Bezirk.

Geschichte

Von 1932 bis 1938 war die Irtysch-Ebene um Pawlodar noch Teil des Gebiets Ost-Kasachstan, dessen Verwaltungssitz Semipalatinsk war. Das Gebiet Pawlodar wurde am 15. Januar 1938 durch Beschluss des Obersten Sowjets der UdSSR neu gebildet und bei der kasachischen Verwaltungsreform von 1997 bestätigt.
