Loksabha

Lok Sabha (Hindi: लोकसभा, loksabhā; Haus des Volkes) ist das Unterhaus des indischen Parlamentes. In der Legislative ist es dem Oberhaus - Rajya Sabha - gleichgestellt. Ausnahme bildet die Haushaltspolitik, in der das Unterhaus den Vorrang hat. Bei verschiedenen Abstimmungsergebnissen gibt es eine gemeinsame Sitzung beider Häuser - da allerdings das Unterhaus mehr als doppelt so viele Mitglieder hat, ist es faktisch die bestimmende Kraft bei Abstimmungen.

Lok Sabha hat 552 Mitglieder und ist damit bezogen auf die Bevölkerungsgröße das kleinste Parlament der Welt. Die Abgeordneten werden alle fünf Jahre in Mehrheitswahl direkt gewählt – 530 in den indischen Bundesstaaten, weitere 20 in den Unionsterritorien, und zwei Mitglieder können vom Präsidenten Indiens ernannt werden, um die anglo-indische Gemeinschaft angemessen zu repräsentieren. Mindestalter für das passive Wahlrecht ist 25 Jahre. Die 14. Lok Sabha wurde im April 2004 gewählt. Die Wahlen zur 15. Lok Sabha[1] finden zwischen dem 16. April und 13. Mai 2009 statt. Die Auszählung und Verkündung der Ergebnisse ist für den 16. Mai 2009 geplant. [2].
