Lord of Mann oder Lord of Man (Manx: Chiarn Vanninagh) ist der Titel von Elisabeth II., der Königin von Großbritannien, als Lord Proprietor[1] und Staatsoberhaupt der Insel Man.

Verwendung des Titels

Der Inselname wird auf Englisch heute nur mit einem „n“ geschrieben. Von amtlicher Seite findet sowohl die Schreibweise mit einem „n“[1][2] als auch die Vollform mit zwei „n“[3][4] Verwendung.

Unabhängig vom Geschlecht lautet der Titel heute „Lord“; Königin Viktoria herrschte hingegen noch als „Lady of Mann“. Der lateinische Titel lautet „Dominus Manniae“.

Der Titel kann korrekterweise nicht alleinstehend verwendet werden. Der Lord of Mann (und ehemals König von Mann) steht in einem Lehensverhältnis zur Krone des Vereinigten Königreiches (vor 1801 Großbritanniens und vor 1707 Englands), und ist nur durch die Personalunion mit der britischen Krone souverän. Der förmliche Toast auf der Insel Man wird daher auf Die Königin, Lord of Mann ausgebracht.
