Losing Pitcher

Ein Loss (angegeben mit L) ist eine Zählstatistik für Pitcher im Baseballsport. Es wird derjenige Pitcher mit dem Loss belastet, welcher in dem Moment im Spiel war, in dem die später siegreiche gegnerische Mannschaft letztmalig mit einem Run in Führung gegangen ist. Dieser Pitcher ist für dieses Spiel der Losing Pitcher.

Erlaubt ein Pitcher dem gegnerischen Team einen Run, welcher dem Gegner zur Führung verhilft, aber im Laufe der Partie ausgeglichen werden kann, so bekommt der Pitcher nicht den Loss.

Ein Pitcher kann auch mit einem Loss belastet werden, obwohl er ausgewechselt wurde, während sein Team in Führung liegt. Dies kann geschehen, wenn der Pitcher während eines Innings getauscht wird, aber zuvor mehrere gegnerische Spieler auf Base gelassen hat, welche später im Inning die entscheidenden Runs scoren.

In jedem Baseballspiel gibt es immer genau einen Losing Pitcher und einen Winning Pitcher, diese beiden werden Pitchers of Record genannt. Ein Pitcher of Record kann niemals ein Save gutgeschrieben bekommen.[1]
