Hidalgo ist ein zentraler Bundesstaat Mexikos (1869 gebildet), nördlich der Hauptstadt gelegen. Er ist benannt nach Miguel Hidalgo, der mit seinem Grito de Dolores den Unabhängigkeitskampf Mexikos initiiert hatte. Er hat 20.813 km² und ca. 2,3 Mio. Einwohner. Hauptstadt ist Pachuca de Soto.

Die berühmteste Attraktion des Staates ist die Ruinenstätte Tula, von der man annimmt, sie sei die Hauptstadt der Tolteken gewesen.

Die Wirtschaft ist hauptsächlich durch den Bergbau (Silber, Gold, Blei, Kupfer, Zink) bestimmt.
