Das finnische Unternehmen Futuremark (zwischen 1999 und 2002 als MadOnion.com bekannt) entwickelt Software, wobei der Schwerpunkt auf Benchmarks liegt. Die bekanntesten Produkte sind die der 3DMark-Serie, welche die 3D–Leistung eines zu testenden PC-Systems jeweils in proprietärer Form bewerten. Trotzdem haben sich die 3DMarks in der Spieleszene quasi als "Referenz" für synthetische 3D-Spiele-Benchmarks durchgesetzt. Futuremarks PCMark findet vor allem zum Testen von vollständigen Computerkonfigurationen (für den produktiven Einsatz) Anwendung.

Geschichte

Das aus der Future Crew im Jahr 1997 als Futuremark Corporation hervorgegangene Unternehmen beschäftigte sich zunächst mit Entwicklung von 3D–Benchmarks, der erste 3DMark kam im März 1999 auf den Markt. Im gleichen Jahr änderte das Unternehmen seinen Namen zu MadOnion.com, diese Umbenennung wurde im Jahr 2002 zur stärkeren Identifizierung des Unternehmens mit den inzwischen stark bekannten 3DMark– und PCMark–Produkten wieder zurückgenommen. Seit 2002 werden zusammen mit dem BAPCo Konsortium (Business Applications Performance Corporation), einem Non-Profit-Konsortium welches objektive Benchmarks für PC-Systeme fördert, Produkte veröffentlicht.

Mit der Gründung des Internetportals YouGamers.com stieg Futuremark seit 2007 mit einer Plattform in das Internetgeschäft ein. 2008 wurden die Gründung eines Entwicklungsstudios für PC–Spiele bekanntgegeben.
