Die modifizierte diskrete Kosinustransformation (englisch Modified Discrete Cosine Transformation, MDCT) ist ein mathematisches Verfahren zur Umwandlung einer Wellenform in ihre Frequenzabfolgen, das bei verlustbehafteter Audiodatenkompression Anwendung findet und den bzw. einen der verlustbehafteten Teile des Codierprozesses darstellt. Die Hauptidee der MDCT ist ein TDAC (Time Domain Aliasing Cancellation):
Die grundlegende Änderung gegenüber einer diskreten Kosinustransformation (DCT) besteht darin, dass aufeinanderfolgende Blöcke überlappt werden und dadurch Klangartefakte, bedingt durch die Grenzbereiche dieser Blöcke, vermieden werden sollen.
