Mpanda ist eine Stadt im ostafrikanischen Staat Tansania. Sie liegt im Nordteil der im Osten des Landes am Tanganjikasee gelegenen Region Rukwa. Wie viele Städte in Afrika ist Mpanda in den vergangenen Jahren stark gewachsen; die Einwohnerzahl betrug im Jahr 2002 45.977.[1]

Die Stadt ist seit dem 23. Oktober 2000, als die neue Diözese Mpanda aus dem Bistum Sumbawanga ausgegliedert wurde, Sitz eines katholischen Bischofs. Außerdem ist die Stadt Endpunkt der Eisenbahnlinie von Kaliua über Ugalla nach Mpanda. Es führt auch eine wichtige Hauptstraße (B8) durch die Stadt.
