Pelliot

Paul Pelliot (* 28. Mai 1878 in Paris; † 26. Oktober 1945 ebenda[1]) war ein französischer Sinologe und Zentralasienforscher. Er war Schüler von Sylvain Lévi, Pelliot leitete nur eine archäologische Expedition nach Zentralasien.

Pelliot arbeitete in der École française d'Extrême-Orient in Hanoi, von wo er 1900 nach Peking geschickt wurde, um für deren Bibliothek nach chinesischen Büchern zu suchen.

Später diente Pelliot als französischer Militärattaché während des Ersten Weltkriegs in Peking. 1945 starb er an Krebs. Über seinen Tod wurde gesagt, dass die Sinologie ohne ihn verwaist sei.

Im Musée Guimet in Paris ist eine Galerie nach ihm benannt.
