Das Spanische Ölsyndrom (engl. Toxic Oil Syndrome (TOS), span. síndrome del aceite tóxico) entstand 1981 in Folge einer Massenvergiftung durch verunreinigtes Speiseöl. Dabei erkrankten ca. 20.000 Personen, über 200 starben wenig später.

Vorgeschichte

Mit Anilin vergälltes Rapsöl wurde als Speiseöl in den Handel gebracht und in Spanien von Straßenhändlern verkauft.

Toxikologie

Der genaue Mechanismus der Vergiftung und damit das toxische Agens ist noch immer unklar. Nachdem sich die Anilin-Hypothese nicht bestätigt hat, werden nun unter anderem ein Zusammenhang mit Fettsäure-Estern des 3-(N-Phenylamino)-1,2-propandiols (PAP) sowie autoimmune Mechanismen diskutiert.
